FreeBSD Events

If you know of any FreeBSD related events, or events that are of interest for FreeBSD users, which are not listed here, please send details to freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org, so they can be included.

Users with organisational software that understands the iCalendar format can subscribe to the FreeBSD events calendar which contains all of the events listed here.

Countries and regions displayed in dark red on the map below are hosting upcoming FreeBSD-related events. Countries that have hosted FreeBSD-related events in the past show up in yellow or orange, with darker colors representing a larger number of previous events.

January 2015

  • FreeBSD Kernel Class, Hillside Club, Berkeley, United States
    22 January - 21 May, 2015
    Marshall Kirk McKusick will be teaching his FreeBSD kernel class based on the second edition of "The Design and Implementation of the FreeBSD Operating System". The class is being taught at the historic Hillside Club in Berkeley, California. The class will be taught weekly, mostly on Thursday nights from January 22nd through May 21st. Those not living in the Bay Area that would like to take the class remotely can sign up for a subscription to receive the classes week-by-week as they are recorded at https://www.mckusick.com/courses/introorderform.html.

  • FOSDEM '15, ULB Campus Solbosh, Brussels, Belgium
    31 January - 1 February, 2015
    FOSDEM '15 is a free and non-commercial event organized by the community, for the community. Its goal is to provide Free and Open Source developers a place to meet. A BSD devroom is organized to host talks about all BSD systems, to participate follow the CFP . Several FreeBSD developers will be present.

    AsiaBSDCon is a conference for users and developers on BSD based systems. The conference is for anyone developing, deploying and using systems based on FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, DragonFlyBSD, Darwin and MacOS X. AsiaBSDCon is a technical conference and aims to collect the best technical papers and presentations available to ensure that the latest developments in our open source community are shared with the widest possible audience.

May 2015

  • Solutions Linux'15, CNIT, Paris - La Défense, France
    20 - 21 May, 2015
    Solutions Linux is one of the major corporate events in France about Linux and Open Source solutions. The event also host a open source commuity 'village'. A group of BSD entousiastics lead by BSD France will be there to promote BSD solutions.

June 2015

  • BSDCan 2015, University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Canada
    10 - 13 June, 2015
    BSDCan is a technical conference for people working on and with BSD operating systems and related projects. It is a developers conference with a strong focus on emerging technologies, research projects, and works in progress. It also features Userland infrastructure projects and invites contributions from both free software developers and those from commercial vendors. BSDCan is followed immediately by PGCon at the same location.

  • MeetBSD California 2014, Western Digital Campus, San Jose, United States
    1 - 2 November, 2014
    MeetBSD 2014 uses a mixed unConference format featuring both scheduled talks and community-driven events such as birds-of-a-feather meetings, lightning talks, and speed geeking sessions.

October 2014

  • X Developer's Conference 2014, LaBRI, Université de Bordeaux 1, Bordeaux, France
    8 - 10 October, 2014
    XDC is the annual conference where people working on the FOSS graphics stack meet. Talks cover projects status, work-in-progress, proposals for change, and so on. Like many similar conferences, this is a great opportunity for developers and users to talk face to face. For the first time in a long time, FreeBSD will be present and give a talk about the status of the graphics stack. The main goal is to re-establish communication with upstream, which tends to get Linux-centric these days.

  • EuroBSDCon 2014, InterExpo Congress Center, Sofia, Bulgaria
    25 - 28 September, 2014
    EuroBSDcon is the premier European conference on the open source BSD operating systems attracting about 250 highly skilled engineering professionals, software developers, computer science students and professors, and users from all over Europe and other parts of the world. The goal of EuroBSDcon is to exchange knowledge about the BSD operating systems, facilitate coordination and cooperation among users and developers. The dates for EuroBSDCon 2014 in Sofia have been set to September 25-26th for tutorials and September 27-28th for the main conference.

    The Cambridge FreeBSD Developers Summit is an annual invite-only event focused on bringing together developers and vendors to discuss and build the future of the FreeBSD project. This years topics will include the desired feature set of FreeBSD 11, implementing the new release strategy for the 9 and 10 branches, packaging the base system, and building the infrastructure and tools to attract more embedded vendors to FreeBSD.
